Art Under Construction: The Artists

Alexandra Rutsch is a fine artist living in New Rochelle, NY. She received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts, and her MS from the College of New Rochelle. She has been teaching art at New Rochelle High School since 1991. She has exhibited professionally since 1990 in New York, Florida and Arkansas. For her first solo exhibition at The Construction Gallery, Alexandra has produced a series titled "Visions & Impressions" consisting of paintings and etchings. The inspiration for the new works comes from familial health issues including recurrent cancer, a stem cell transplant and fertility. Images of the body and abstracted cellular landscapes are apparent. The paintings are all on different handmade papers and range in media, including gouache, ink, tempera, enamel and acrylic. The prints include both soft and hard ground etchings.
